My Mum was born on the Pear Tree Estate and grew up in the Town. We would always visit when we were kids. My Uncle cleans and keeps the Town tidy to this very day.

music by Ron Grainer!! the same year he made the classic Dr Who theme! I was surprised by the colour and detail of the film: has it been restored? I was wondering if it was shot on 35mm as opposed to 16mm....which meant a larger budget but better quality of course. I'm guessing the original crew are long gone alas, so, maybe we will never know.

How on earth did I miss a Frederick Delius post from you? I have always been an admirer of Delius music, especially "The Florida Suite". As you said in the biography here, the composer's time in Florida spent absorbing the musical idioms of African American music partly explains his appeal to me on a personal level. Thanks Jayne.

apart from the awful music they always used to put on these things, this was a gorgeous and well-shot film, especially for a bus nerd like me! Some classic vehicles caught in action and quite rare these days, such as the Beverly Bar AEC Bridgemasters, with the specially made roofline! Lovely to see shots of my hometown too, Swansea, and the valleys South Wales Transport used to serve, back in the day.

This tune didn't get a studio release until the 'Today' lp in 1971 although it had obviously been around from the mid 60's.

It's Peter McGurk on bass. Jeff Clyne came later (briefly) before Peter Morgan. The First tune is actually called 'Not Only, but Also' (B side of the 'Goodbye' single) and the ballad before 'If I fell' is called 'Folk Song' Thanks for posting!

I may well be wrong (!) but isn't that Pete McGurk on bass? He died rather young, I seem to remember. Great stuff - I recall loving this as a 9 year old, before I realised I love jazz!

You made my day, Clint with this marvelous documentary. Been listening to the DBQ since '64 and continue to do so, today. I have a large collection of recordings that I play-along with at my home. Joe Morello's terrific drumming inspired me to play jazz and pay particular attention to odd time signatures. I met Joe in the mid-sixties, when the Quartet was performing at the Hollywood Bowl. His technique and marvelous-sounding drum set was such a thrill for me to experience ! (b.t.w., July 17 is my birthdate...same as Joe's) ; ) Thank you.

Excellent film! I was an instructor for 25 years until a serious accident whilst teaching made me realise the job is just too dangerous these days. Thing is I could teach a student how to drive safely but I could never be responsible for what they did once they had passed the test. Incidentally there was one of these colour test film about a garage in France is it still available?
